Selecting Routes - Vehicle Shipping

When deciding to make reservations for auto shipping, it is beneficial to have an idea of what route that your vehicle will travel upon. Knowing how drivers select routes and what probable routes that they will take can help make things easy for you and for the driver. Thus, our aim in this article is to list some of the most popular routes and explain how to figure out what route your vehicle will travel along so that you make the best decisions for car shipping.

The first thing you should know is how drivers select routes. Drivers strongly prefer to travel along major highways that lead to major cities. For example, if a driver based in Florida is making a trip up to New York, he'll strongly prefer to take I-95. This will allow him to make stops in a number of major cities along the way, like Savannah, Charleston, Raleigh, Richmond, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. While in these cities, he can make the pick-ups or deliveries that he needs to stay profitable. And because there are so many options for profitable loads, pick-ups can be made quickly and there are many opportunities for discounts.

If you want to get the best rates and fastest service, it is important that you stay relatively close to these routes. Unfortunately, not everyone will be located in major population centers or other popular routes. While this doesn't mean that we won't be able to pick your vehicle up, it may make a pick up slightly more difficult. An example of a route that might be considered is the I-84 route through Boise. This route is difficult because there are only two large cities along this route, Portland and Boise. Unlike I-95, which has 9 or so highly populated cities in its vicinity, the I-84 really only has two options for pick-ups or deliveries. Thus, a driver along this route must have a full load from Portland to Boise or vice versa in order to be profitable, and this means that you'll either have to pay a slight premium for a quick pickup or wait about a week or so for service.

Below is a list of popular routes and the cities that they run through, arranged by region. If you're not located along a major route, then it might be beneficial to either meet a driver nearby a major route or make your auto shipping reservations early.
