Hawaii To New York

Do you find yourself needing to move a vehicle from Hawaii (HI) to New York (NY) or in the reverse direction? That's quite a big undertaking to assume on your own -- you'd be best advised to contact American Auto Transport AAT to move the vehicle on your behalf. Not only will we get your auto to the right port on time, we'll also take care of moving it the 3,000 miles across the mainland, too. We'll take care of all of the paperwork and logistics end of things, which mean a lot less stress for you.

Additionally, we'll save you money on the overseas shipping, because we get exclusive auto shipping discounts from Matson. We get a much better transport rate than the private citizen. And our transport costs on the mainland are also some of the lowest in the business.

American Auto Transport AAT will take care of getting your car, truck, or van to the right port safely and will deliver it to your destination in a secure and timely manner. This means you don't have to worry about a thing!

When shipping your car from New York to Hawaii, our auto transport services will pick up your car and ship it to the state of California in order to be prepped and shipped by ship to Hawaii.

Prepping Your Vehicle for Shipping and Transport

There are some standard preparations you'll need to make in order to ship your car via Matson. Before American Auto Transport AAT picks-up your vehicle, you'll need to ensure that the car, truck, or van:

  • Has less than ¼ of a tank of gas in its fuel tank
  • Is fully operable
  • Has a functional emergency brake
  • Has intact -- no breaks or cracks -- windshield and windows
  • Has been thoroughly cleaned and emptied, inside and out

Absolutely no personal items are allowed to remain in the vehicle, whether in the passenger area or the trunk of the vehicle. The only things allowed to remain during shipping are the Owner's Manual (in the dash box), the tire jack, and the spare tire. If your vehicle has a roof rack, that must be securely bolted to the frame. Likewise, subwoofers may remain in the trunk, if they're secured. Additionally, you can leave in place care seats for infants and children, provided that they have been secured and buckled into the seat. Fire extinguishers and propane tanks are not ever allowed.

For the Matson Reservation

In order for American Auto Transport AAT to secure a shipping reservation number for your vehicle, through Matson, we will need the following information:

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Vehicle License Plate Number
  • Vehicle Year, Make, Model, Color
  • All of the contact information (Name, Phone Numbers) for the owner and the person who will be dropping off the vehicle.

Requirements at the Ports

There are different paperwork requirements for vehicles leaving Hawaii and those leaving the mainland. Please pay close attention to which set of requirements apply to your transportation situation.

From Hawaii

If you're shipping a vehicle from Hawaii to the mainland, on its way to New York, you're going to need to have all of the following information and paperwork on hand if you're dropping off the vehicle at the port yourself or having an American Auto Transport AAT rep drop it off for you:

  • Current Registration (from any state)
  • Vehicle Title or a Letter from the Lien Holder
  • Photo ID -- Government Issued
  • Matson Shipping / Booking Number

Additionally, it is important that the person dropping off the vehicle at the port be the person listed on the Matson Shipping / Booking form; if this is not the case, the vehicle will not be shipped. Also, if someone other than the registered owner is dropping off the vehicle, they must present Matson with a notarized letter giving permission for that person to drop off the vehicle at the port for shipping to the mainland. Also, anyone with a legal interest in the vehicle -- including the lien holder -- must provide written permission for the vehicle to leave Hawaii and be transported to New York.

From the Mainland

On the other hand, if you're going to be shipping a car, truck, or van from New York / the Mainland to Hawaii, you're going to need to provide the following info and paperwork:

  • Photo ID -- Government Issued
  • Document showing Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) -- Title, Registration, Insurance Card
  • Matson Shipping / Booking Number

It is essential that the person who is delivering the vehicle to the port for shipping MUST BE listed on the Matson Booking / Shipping form. Otherwise, the vehicle will not be shipped to Hawaii. Additionally, if the vehicle's legal owner is not the person dropping off of the vehicle to be shipped, the legal owner must provide a notarized letter giving the person permission to deliver the vehicle for shipping through Matson.
