Auto Transport Tips and Tricks Part II

After the success of the last Tips and Tricks article, we've decided to renew the series for a second part! This edition will hopefully fill in any gaps in the first edition! Remember to use this information wisely to make the best decision for auto transport!

Beware of companies that give you estimates rather than prices

Some companies offer estimates rather than prices. Beware of this. Giving an "estimate" is another way of saying that they may raise the price. Always try to find a company that can offer you a flat-price, as this is generally an indication that they have direct relationships with drivers.

Make sure that your vehicle is clean before it is inspected

Rinse your vehicle off before you have it shipped, as it will need to be inspected. If your vehicle isn't clean enough to perform an accurate inspection, you may run into problems down the road. Also, there may sometimes be an accumulation of road dust on your vehicle after transporting. Make sure that your vehicle is clean on BOTH ends so that both inspections are accurate. American Auto Transport offers a door-to-door direct transport for all of our jobs, so you should be able to hose off your vehicle before it is inspected. If you cannot rinse your vehicle off, you might want to bring a damp shammy to wipe it down instead.

Lowball pricing usually winds up costing you more than the average price

It may seem like an unusual statement at first blush, but it's absolutely true: beware of lowball pricing, because it can wind up costing you a lot more than you bargained for. The basic premise of the lowball trick is a bait and switch. The market controls prices, not brokers, so it's simply not possible to offer prices hundreds of dollars lower than the average price. What these brokers do is offer you one price and then change the price after they've received your information. And if you decide to cancel, they'll most likely keep your deposit and you'll be out of a few hundred dollars. Be reasonable; if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

If you want the best prices, be flexible

The easiest way to get a good deal on auto shipping is to be flexible. You can sometimes get better rates by waiting a few days or by meeting the driver in a major city. Although an alternative plan of action may not be ideal, you can certainly save some money by being flexible. There are a multitude of different ways to save, so call an auto transport expert at (866) 327-7863 and find out how you can save today!

Beware of terminal shipping

American Auto Transport always provides door-to-door direct transport service for all of our customers. Some auto transport companies, however, use terminal shipping services. The problem with terminal shipping is that it's difficult to estimate when your vehicle will depart from the terminal and that there is often little accountability in terms of where your vehicle is at any given time. If you don't want to be worried about the condition of your vehicle on delivery, then we suggest that you use a door-to-door direct service instead.

American Auto Transport wants you to make the best decisions when choosing if, when, and how you transport your vehicle. The best way to make good decisions is to have accurate knowledge. This is why we share all of our knowledge about auto shipping with our customers. Take this information and apply it. Make the right choice, choose American Auto Transport.
