Like so many other industries, there are seasonal highs and lows in the auto transport world. Certain routes are more or less busy during different times of the year. It is important that you know what seasons are better or worse for getting the best prices for auto shipping.
There are two main busy seasons for the auto transport industry: the summer season and the snowbird season. Nearly all routes operate at full volume during the summer season. This is our highest earning period of the year. If you're looking for car shipping during the summer season, be prepared to pay more than you would during the off season. Availability during this period may also be limited along certain routes, so make reservations in advance to ensure a particular pickup date.
Snowbird season is our second busiest business cycle. The snowbird season runs from around October to March /early April. During this period, we experience a high volume of car shipping from the Northeast and Midwest to the Southeast and Southwest. At the height of the snowbird season, you can expect above average rates and decreased availability for southward bound routes. If you'd like to have your vehicle transported on a particular date during this season, either make your reservations far in advance, or prepare to pay a premium.
Despite increased pricing and decreased availability during these seasons, there are discounts to be had. During the snowbird season, for example, the busy routes leave from the North and move southwards. Once the driver has made his deliveries in the South, he will most likely struggle to find a full load to haul back up North. So if you're looking for cheap car shipping from the South to the North, the best time to transport will be during the height of the snowbird season.
