Depending on what transport company you use, transporting your vehicle to and from Alaska can either be extremely difficult or extremely easy. Any auto transporter worth their salt can offer you an Alaska transport service, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll do the job right. What you'll need to confirm your reservation and drop your vehicle off at the port

Once you've spoken to our Alaska transport department and have decided that you'd like to ship with American Auto Transport, just call American Auto Transport at (866) 327-7863 and have the following information:

  • Your contact information (name and phone number) for pickup and drop-off at the ports
  • The color, year, make, and model of your vehicle
  • Your license plate number
  • Your vehicle identification number (VIN)

After we've received this info, you'll be provided with a Matson booking number. You'll also need the following information for dropping your vehicle off at the port:

  • A government issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License)
  • A document proving your VIN number is correct (e.g. your title, registration, or insurance card)
  • Your current registration

If there is lien against your vehicle, you'll also need a signed letter from your lien holder indicating their permission to ship your vehicle

Make sure that the person picking up or dropping off your vehicle at the port is either the owner of the vehicle or is listed with the port authorities.

How to Prepare your Vehicle for Shipping

Preparing your vehicle for transport into or out of Alaska can be a little bit confusing. One universal rule for all port-to-port shipments to and from Alaska is that your gas tank must ¼ of the way filled. In other cases, what is allowable and what isn't is a bit more dubious. For example, personal effects may be transported inside the vehicle in some cases, and in others they may not.

Again, this is why it's important to speak to our Alaskan transport expert to know precisely what is and is not acceptable procedure for your particular case. Violations of protocol may result in delayed shipments, extra storage fees, forfeiture of deposit, etc. Call American Auto Transport at (866) 327-7863 and speak to our resident Alaska expert about making reservations for Alaskan auto transport.
