One of the most common questions that we encounter here at American Auto Transport pertain to timing. Our customers often want to know how far ahead in advance reservations must be made for auto shipping. The answers to these questions are quite situational. Depending on where you’re looking to ship your vehicle to and from and what kind of vehicle you’re shipping, the timeframe for the reservations may shift. The purpose of this article is to explain how to time your reservation so that your vehicle is picked up and delivered when you want it to be.
The time at which you should make your reservation is largely dependent on when and where your vehicle needs to leave from. Some routes and vehicles are easy to move, while others are significantly more difficult. Therefore, it is important to know what the difference is between certain routes and vehicles in terms of how long it will take to find a driver so that you know when to make your reservations.
The time that it takes to get your vehicle picked up is most affected by where your vehicle is located. Vehicles that are in locations that are highly populated, like major metropolitan areas, are much easier to get picked up than vehicles that are in less populated areas. For instance, picking up a standard-sized vehicle from New York City to Los Angeles will only take about 1-3 days. This is because there are a great many drivers in these areas. Getting the same exact vehicle picked up from Portland, Maine and taken to Butte, Montana may take up to a week and a half to get picked up! So if you are transporting a vehicle to or from a low-population area, make reservations at least a week prior to when you need your vehicle transported. Otherwise, American Auto Transport can have your vehicle within 3 days of the time that you book!
Another determinant of when one should transport a vehicle depends on what kind of vehicle it is. Some vehicles are more easily to transport than others, and this makes the wait time for pick-ups longer or shorter. For instance, transporting a Toyota Corolla is much easier to transport than an H2 Hummer, so it will take much less time to find a driver for the former than the latter. Therefore, if you need a your Toyota Corolla transported on a particular day, making a reservation just a few days ahead of time should not be a problem. But if you need a Hummer transported on a particular day, then you’ll need to make sure that you make your reservations a week or more ahead of time.
